Besides many other cars including the Ford B-Max, the upcoming Geneva Motor Show will also mark the debut of the Fiat 500L. Along with the Abarth and Cabrio versions of this car, this model will apparently foster the brand’s strategy which is aimed at expanding its offer by introducing models that look to meet the requirements of different types of customers.

The ‘L’ in the moniker of this ride stands for ‘Large,’ a characteristic that supposedly looks to set it apart from the other vehicles in this range. The 500L is claimed by its manufacturer to combine the space of an MPV passenger with the feel of a small SUV and the dimensions and efficiency of a B segment car. Positioned as an alternative to the traditional B and C segments, the 500L supposedly blends the attributes of both these kinds of automobiles.

This car houses a 5-seater single-volume structure that is 414cm long, 178cm wide and 166cm high, and is hailed by Fiat to be a further development of its concept of ‘cab forward’ initiated by the 600 Multipla. While initially, a range of only three engines – two petrol and one diesel, will be made available for this ride, it is expected to receive more options in the future. Upon launch, the available engines will include TwinAir and 1.4-litre petrol units and a turbodiesel unit (1.3 MultiJet II), all three of which will come equipped with a number of Fiat’s technologies.

Following its first appearance at the Geneva Motor Show, the Fiat 500L will hit markets in Europe during the last quarter of 2012.
