Volkswagen Cross Up! Front View

At last month’s Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen had greeted visitors by unveiling the concepts of six small family cars, one of which was the five-door Volkswagen Cross Up! Designers of this car are said to have created it along the lines of an SUV, which is explained by the car’s raised suspension.

The highlight of Volkswagen’s display at the event was of course the three-door city Up! which will be released under the Skoda Citigo moniker. One of the chief differences between the Citigo and the Cross Up! is the additional doors. Moreover, the styling of the C-pillars is also believed to be dissimilar to the city model.

Some of the styling elements of the Cross Up! can apparently be traced back to the last-generation Polo Dune which is known across Europe as the Cross Polo. These include the wheel arch, side sill extensions and the black side protection strips above the sills. The front bumper of this concept is equipped with silver cross-bar and integrated fog lights whereas its front air intake will bear a honeycomb grille.

Underneath this car lies a robust silver-colored underbody protection at both ends. Furthremore, akin to the front bumper, the rear bumper too gets a silver cross-bar. The concept was unveiled in a Tornado Red body color with matt silver roof rails and the light silver door mirror caps. Interiors of this car also bear the red theme. The centre panels, side panels dashboard panel and upper door trim panels are all red in color.

While orders for the three-door Up! (Citigo) will commence in October in the UK, the five-door Volkswagen Cross Up! will only be made available in late 2012.
